Case Studies

Case Studies:
SPA System
Sound Projector Array (SPA) System

Doel Nuclear Power Plant

Lambton Generating Station, Ontario, The system was permanently installed after a successful three year independent trial to reduce entrainment of gizzard shad.

Doel Nuclear Power Plant

Beckton Desalination Plant, London. The UK’s first desalination plant required additional screening from an FGS acoustic system to protect the delicate sand smelt

Doel Nuclear Power Plant

Doel Nuclear Power Plant, Belgium. Installed in 1996 and independently assessed, Doel is the longest running power station system supplied by FGS.

Pembroke Power Station, Wales. Pembroke’s fish deflection system includes MkIII Sound Projectors and is the largest permanent system ever installed.

Second Forth Road Crossing, Scotland. A mobile SPA system was supplied to deflect fish prior to blasting during the construction of the new bridge.

Foss Barrier Pumping Station, York. The first permanent system installed by FGS, commissioned in 1995 following independent demonstration trials.

Otterbourne Drinking Water Intake, Hampshire. Typical of the many drinking water intake systems installed by FGS, the system provided a cost effective screening solution

Case Studies:
SILAS™ System
Syncronised Intense Light And Sound
(SILAS™) Technology

Dalian LNG Terminal is located on the Dagushan peninsula of Dalian City, in Liaoning Province, north eastern China.

Georgiana Slough, California, USA. To reduce losses of Chinook salmon a 192m BAFF system was installed and evaluated using the latest 3D tracking technology.

Head of Old River, California, USA. The system was installed to deflect migrating Chinook salmon from entering an irrigation channel and results from 2D tracking demonstrate its performance.

Pembroke Power Station, Wales. The largest CCGT station in Europe has the largest permanent SILAS system supplied by FGS.

Lower Bear Creek, British Columbia, Canada. A new run-of-river hydro intake required screening and this case study outlines the first SILAS system installed in Canada.

Donna Nook Pumping Station, Lincolnshire. A SILAS system was installed to provide the optimum screening solution as part of the refurbishment of a pumping station.

Case Studies:
BAFF System
Bio-Acoustic Fish Fence (BAFF) System

Quiver Creek, Illinois, USA. Results are presented following the field evaluation of a BAFF system designed to combat the expansion of Asian Carp in the Mississippi.

Georgiana Slough, California, USA. To reduce losses of Chinook salmon a 192m BAFF system was installed and evaluated using the latest 3D tracking technology.

Head of Old River, California, USA. A BAFF was installed to guide migrating Chinook salmon from the entrance of an irrigation channel and results from 2D tracking demonstrate its performance.

Lower Bear Creek, British Columbia, Canada. A new run-of-river hydro intake required screening and a BAFF was installed to act as a barrier for the local fish population.

Backbarrow Hydro Scheme, Lake District, UK. The BAFF was installed in the headrace of a refurbished hydro plant to guide migrating salmon smolt into a new fish pass.
